Skyrim: Karthwasten

September 14, 2015 - Skyrim / Video Games

Take the main road out of Markarth and head northeast.  Then watch for a  switchback to the northwest in order to reach this town.  When you first enter Karthwasten, you will see people arguing over the local mine.  Talk to either Atar or Ainethach to get a side quest to resolve this dispute – most probably by killing the Silver-blood mercenaries in the mine.

You may also come to Karthwasten as part of a quest for the Temple of Dibella in Markarth.

In addition, this is a great fast travel destination for the many locations you will want to explore in the Reach.

Karthwasten Hall, Enmon’s House, Miner’s Barracks: These buildings hold nothing unique for the game.  You can steal random things from each of the houses if you choose to do so.

Fenn’s Gulch Mine:  This is a played out silver mine.  There is still one silver ore vein you can mine if you want to take the time to explore – otherwise there really is nothing of interest here.

Sanuarach Mine: This mine is the main focus of Karthwatsten right now because it holds the area’s financial future.  The mine has been taken over by mercenaries.  The mercenaries will not initially be hostile when you enter the mine – giving you a chance to resolve the problem diplomatically by talking to Atar.  Atar has 3 mercenaries that patrol the mine and you need to kill all of them as well as Atar if you choose the combat route. The mine itself has a simple layout with many silver ore veins to mine.
