Skyrim Quest: Discerning the Transmundane

May 4, 2015 - Skyrim / Video Games

There are a number of ways you can get this quest, but the simplest is to reach level 15 and head up to Septimus Signus’s Outpost – in the far north.

Talk to him there and he will go on about a powerful artifact hidden inside the cave where he has been lurking.  He will give you an attunement sphere and a lexicon, and tell you to go to Alfthand.

Alfthand is a long dwemer ruin.  Explore your way through it until you get to Blackreach and the Tower of Mzark.  Work your way through the Tower of Mzark until you get to the oculary.  Here you need to Lexicon on the control stand to turn the thing on.  There is a control panel with several buttons.  Press the second button from the right, waiting for the machine to move after each press, four times.  A new button, third from the right, will appear.  Press it twice.  Another button appears to the left.  Press it.  Now you can take the Runed Lexicon and go into the oculary and grab the elder scroll.

Head on back to Septimus Signus.  He will tell you that you need to harvest the blood of all the elf/orc races and give you a tool for doing so.  As you leave, you will have a chat with Hermaeus Mora.  Now you need to go out and get blood from all the different races – which can take a while.

Once you have all the blood, go on back to talk with Septimus again.  He will finally be able to get through the cave he has been working on all these years.  Inside he discovers a book, and Hermaeus Mora zaps him.  Yeehaw, quest complete and you get to read the Oghma Infinium.

You only get to read this super skill book once.  It boosts the skills for whatever path you choose, Might, Shadow, or Magic, by 5 points.

Might: Archery, Block, Heavy Armor, One-Handed, Smithing, Two-handed

Magic: All the magic skills, including Enchanting

Shadow: Alchemy, Light Armor, Lockpicking, Pickpocket, Sneak, Speech
